Costa Rica has recently been
designated by the Natural Resources Defense Council as a BioGem of the
world. This recognizes the country’s efforts for protecting over 500
thousand species of flora and fauna found in its forests. But a nation
is not complete without its people; Costa Ricans (known locally as
ticos) are generally gentle, friendly, educated, and kind people. Above
all, they are very open to visitors from other countries and treat them
well, so, every tourist can expect to be made welcome wherever they go.
